Parweld 25 torch question

Hi,

I bought a barley used portamig 211 from a member on the forum last weekend and im really impressed with it so far but have a quick question.

I have a small amount of body work to do so would like to use 0.6 wire however the 250a type 25 torch it comes with doesn't have any 0.6 tips available and has the larger red liner fitted.Is it possible to put a blue liner in and use 0.6 tips from a type 15 torch?They are the same thread but 3mm shorter than the type 25 ones,will they do the job or should I just stop being a tight sod and by a type 15 torch to run the 0.6 wire?

I'd try using the .8 wire first. I've never used .6 for anything. I had a roll spare and gave it away as it was just getting in the way. If the welder amp control is any good you don't need to swap it out. If you really want to use it just swap the tip for the .6, being a bit shorter will not hurt.

Thanks for the reply,I forgot to say I have given it a try on a good few test pieces and it welds not too badly with the 0.8 but it leaves a bit more metal to clean up afterwards,its on a mini so the panels are thin enough to start with so the less cleaning up (and less risk of thinning any surrounding metal) the better.

I was also worried that the test welds were done on fresh steel and by the time i've cleaned up the cars original metal it will be a bit thinner so thought 0.6 would minimise the risk of blowing holes.

Not sure where you've looked but 0.6mm tips are readily available for MB25 torches.

Yes it does have the 0.6 groove on the roller.

Thats pretty embarrasing then!

To be honest I only checked the weldequip shop and a couple of places google brought up so it wasnt exactly an exhaustive search. Will have a better look around in that case.......must try harder!

Send weldequip an email - he will have the bits and the liner to convert to 0.6mm wire.
