parts washer repair

hi all,

Picked up this sad looking parts washer at a reclamation yard the other month. Been sat outside for sometime.

these ones are quite expensive so for a tenner I couldn't say no.
The pump is had it, has anyone repaired once or found suitable replacement pump or reccomended for a cheap fix?

12v washer pump from a Jag, or cheap pond pump from Ebay, or place a container of washer fluid above and use gravity

Actually it doesn't look sad but the most important part of that tool is toast,,,, hope you find a fix it looks good

Cheers guys, washin axhine pumps sounds like a cheap fix,
The pic makes it look better than it is, quite rusty!

have you had the pump out to take a good look..they can get gummed up and wont turn

With a 12v pump you can reduce the amount of cleaner needed to get it to work. Mine (as supplied with 240v pump) needed nearly 20 litres of cleaner to get the pump to work, as the inlet was quite a few inches away from the parts washer base. With the 12v pump I have fitted now, it only takes about an inch depth of cleaner to get the stuff circulating.

Those Draper parts washer pumps used to have a "fusible Link" on the inside of the motor.
Draper would say you over loaded the pump with dirty cleaning fluid, so not have to pay out.
It is easy to bypass.

What fluid are you going to use? I would like a parts washer but memories of the stinking fluid put me off having one in my workshop.

jizer degreaser

I use that, I get it cheaply enough.

ive been using jizer to clean an engine lately with good results. its on offer in eurocarparts.

Many yeasr ago I saw one converted from an electrical pump to compressed air operation, don't know how the guy did it, but him doing it shows its possible to do.

Will water pumps suggested work with solvents?.

If designed to be washed away with water.
But I have made a parts washer using a pond pump what was a mix of petrol and oil. It lasted until I scraped it.

Small pond pump from eBay for a fiver. Replaced mine a couple of time over the years like that.
