Hi all
I am assisting a diy welder friend with a powermat S 230 MIG welder he bought from a friend ,who said it was OK the last time he used it LOL , well after modifying the wire spool assembly so that it rotated smoothly, then checked the wire speed motor that did not seem powerful enough and the wire delivery wheel was the right wire diameter , I found that the 5 metre binzel welding tube / torch was TOO LONG for the wire motor and would not flow evenly to well because even at FULL pressure on the adjustment the wire was still skidding , I can only assume that they have bought a mismatch , I checked the binzel inner cable for kinks .
Then found the plastic tube between the wire spool and wire delivery motor had been melted along one side , no doubt due to a sudden slow wire stoppage it shorted and heated the wire up back to the spool, so as you can see its been a bit of a problem . I then found the main rotary switch was causing blown fuse as it was being rotated through the numerous settings and was loose on the casing, after checking inside the machine I found the where the switch was screwed had broken off and after removing the LAST screw to then renew, the turn knob of the switch pulled out with the actuation bar .
SO does anyone know where I can buy the switch of this old discontinued welding plant ,or anyone who has an old switch that will be ok to fit the powermat S MIG 230 which is red T.I.A.
