parting off tool

seem to think ive seen somewhere that you can use a strip of saw blade with tip on end as parting off tool.
got couple of blades doing nothing.
can you?

yes they are high speed steel, you can cut a bit off and grind our own tooth, and your off, cheap cheap cheap

You can also use a TCT circular saw blade to cut tools out from

TCT blades are the best, just cut one cut with a grinder. Ive a few with cutting tips from 2mm to 7mm'ish

Another thing to do is to find a piece of tool steel and make a brazed tip carbide PO tool. I'm sure I can sort out some old part off tips which only need a grind up. We cange them as soon as it chips even the tiniest bit on the CNCs as it can the holders by putting a side load on it where it is cutting more efficiently than the other side.

Get the right tips etc and a part off will cut at least 8 times quicker.

At previous work they were tight arsed and used hacksaw blades for parting off. Trouble is the last 9 years blades are naff and barely last cutting off 1/8" round steel.
If you don't grind square they will veer away.

Took me a good 20yrs to acquire decent part off tools couldn't bring myself to fork out Iscar, Arno Kennametal, real pricey but worth it long run. Think I have around 11 permanently setup, neutral, right hand, various thickness etc

As standard we run 3mm carbide stellram part offs in the CNCs and use the 4mm carbide Walter ones on the manuals.
