I love guitars, I have a lovely Gibson 50's Tribute Les Paul that's my baby, an Ibanez S-470 for when I want to rock and a lovely Takamine acoustic which lives in my living room.
A few month back someone offered me a totally beat up Super Strat for £50!!!
He sent me these pictures with a huge warning about the mess that some nugget had inflicted upon this poor thing...
Was pretty much my reaction when I saw the photograph.
He promised that the neck was straight although it could do with a new nut and a fret dress. The only thing he knew about it was that he bought it in the early 80's for a slide guitar and didn't realise what a mess it was until the 1st time he took the pick guard off.
£50 was quickly sent to him purely on the basis that the body might be a mess but the neck is worth that all day long. Even if it took a while to do up, kinda as and when I have some spare time and cash to throw at the project.
When it arrived I could have cried at the total horror, it was originally routed for twin humbuckers but someone had decided they wanted a more traditional 3 single coil configuration and hacked the wood out the a knife and fork!
The flamed top was obviously a very thin veneer and it was covered in a poly finish that was thicker than those girls off Geordie Shore!
I set to work and before long she looked like this...
A bit more work and she started to look a bit better...
I snagged a lovely vintage pickguard from ebay...
My oh my, doesn't she look lovely!!!
I then set about replacing the nut...
New nut fitted...
I ordered a roller trem from Holland which was the most expensive part, it's a quality item and should keep it in tune and intonated..
Installed the electronics, with a push/pull volume pot to split the coils on the Seymour Duncan Lil'59, the pickup needs reversing though.
Now it's all built and fully working, I need to strip it all down again ready for painting...
It's going to be finished off in a vintage amber nitro
More pictures to come...
