Part P 2013

Am I right in my reading of the current Part P http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/uploads/br/BR_PDF_AD_P_2013.pdf

I've knocked the kitchen back to the structure and the current wiring falls way short of the IEE 17 3rd edition and all that so I was thinking about doing it properly to current IEE guidelines.

Kitchens aren't mentioned as notifiable in the current Part P and I don't need any new circuits. Does that mean I can do it again properly myself or do I need to employ a competent person and then fix their bodges myself later on if I have my normal luck with tradesmen?

Do it yourself then get it tested and signed, brightspark is the man to ask @brightspark

I've been part P since it was a new thing, but these days I only do connections to existing spurs or temp stuff up. Sparkys do everything else. At home I do whatever I like and get 17th qualified mate to check and sign it off, he just tells me how it needs to be done if it's changed recently

Are Building Control involved in your renovation at all?
If they are in theory you can do the work yourself and Building Control will inspect and certify the work, trying to get them to do it is another task in itself though.

Brave asking an electrical question online, let alone about the infamous Part P

Building control are onboard, though they won't sign off this sort of thing. They'll ask me to find an electrician who rightly won't want to sign it off as they can't see everything.

I feel better about Part P after realising it isn't aimed at people like me who would like the job to be done properly. It's aimed at the last person who had a crack at it. It has made me look at the IEE stuff in much more detail and it there is a lot of sensible stuff that I wouldn't have thought of myself.

Thing I was really asking is if it is not notifiable then does it really need to be done by a 3 week wonder prepared to work on domestic or can I do it myself?

Completely agree, the company I was working for got all excited/worried and spent a fortune sending us all for training and bought us test equipment, then decided that 99% of jobs need a sparky anyway.....

Kitchens are no longer a special location so yes you can do the work yourself although I would advise doing some basic tests before and after you apply power to the circuits.

Too right! What it's done is push lots of people to have a go themselves to avoid the extra costs, this then means loads more dangerous bodge ups in houses.
Monkey kitchen fitters work is some of THE worst cases I've come across, often a fire waiting to happen, But the old spark that's been doing it for years has now gave up as he couldn't make a decent living out of it..... too many IEE's (imported European electricians) see what I did there or IET's for you new lot ( imported European tossers)
Rant rant etc etc I don't do domestic work anymore thank ****.

if planning want a certificate u will have to do the donkeywork and get someone in to say they did the work and they connect it and certify . if not needed just do it all yourself as long as its done correctly . later on if u need a cert for selling just get anyone to do a periodic test on it and if its rite it will pass

If you are going to do the work and Building Control are involved, you have to notify before you start I believe.

And just like when you are building an extension, or converting a loft, etc, there is a fee payable to LABC to cover their activities related to checking compliance with the Building Regulations"

The kitchen company formerly owned by Homeform ... their kitten f***ers rewired Nursy's kitchen leaving all the T&E trailing on the floor behind the cabinets. Having also snapped every bracket that was supposed to retain the kickboards, they resorted to snotting them in place with ponge. Also swept all trimmings, plaster dust etc. under the cabinets instead of into the bin I'd left them.
I'd hate to see what they did if it was a cheap kitchen.
