Part of my compressor has fell off

Hello all


I was moving my trailer around in the garage and the towing end hit the compressor and this part snapped off...

I have tried what I can removing it, part of the thread is stuck in the hole. Does the blue part going into the cyclinder come apart also so I could change that?

can you take a picture from further back please. I'm not sure what model that is . Take the bit that is broken off into your local Machine Mart and they will be able to advise further.

The blue part you refer to looks like a pipe collar that is screwed onto a nipple going into a threaded bush in the tank. If so should easily unscrew, perhaps a photo sideways on to this part would confirm.

The blue part looks like a simple black iron 1/2" tee, a decent plumbers merchant will have them.
The Clarke item (filter?) is just bad positioning coupled with Chineseium which may have already been cracked with the vibration.

Pair of pipe grips and take the T with the gauge off of the tank.

Does the part that broke off have a pressure adjustment knob on the top and look like this

If so it looks to be the pressure regulator

The first thing to do is take those eazi-outs and throw them in the bin.....Nowt like causing more problems for yourself.

Then take some better pictures and post them..

As already said, it's a black iron tee-piece. Remove the gauge and unscrew it. The nipple that goes into the tank may, or may not, unscrew with it. If it does come out just buy a new one, they're inexpensive.

I might break my own rule on easy-outs there - they might remove a fitting snapped from impact - and even if they do make it worse, you haven't lost anything.

Looks to me like you need to disconnect the motor cable from the switch box, remove the switch box by unscrewing it, then you can swing the tee around under the compressor head to be able to unscrew it.

Unscrew the fittings from the tee-piece, find a local iron monger, even B&Q might have malleable iron fittings? I've never looked. Need a new tee and new hex nipple - unscrew the remains of the one snapped off from the bottom of your regulators and reassembly with a few turns of PTFE tape or pipe sealant and then put it so it can't be clobbered again.

If you need a new tee and nipple buy either galvanised steel or stainless steel ones.
Black iron ones will rust and cause future problems.

The bit between the tee and the tank is a very short bit of threaded pipe (there's no hex showing.)
It may be very difficult to get out if it doesn't come with the tee

Ok after work I've took it apart as best I can. Had to undo more than I thought plus the wiring...so hopefully I remember how it goes back.


I cannot separate the small pipe from the T piece now so will aim to get both new

The sort of small brake pipe with nipples has seen better days.

Does anyone know where I can get these bits from?

This is where you discover the joy of a pair Stilsons (the wobbly jawed adjustable wrench) when you use them on pipe.

Most of it from a decent plumber's merchant.

The "short pipe" is a 1/2"(?) BSP barrel nipple. You should be able to get it out with Stilsons if you want to, but they are pennies to buy.

Difficult to tell from the photos, but the T piece looks like it is a reducing tee - possibly 1/2" x 1/2" x 3/8" BSP (but you would need to confirm the size / take it with you). There's another barrel nipple (3/8"?) between the tee and the (3/8"?) street elbow.

Small pipe is the unloader line that vents the compressor for startup. Try and rescue it if you can. (Will probably be available from Clarke as a spare part for a lot less money than a roll of suitable copper tube.)

You will need some sort of thread sealant on each joint when you put it back together (PTFE tape or, better, something in a bottle).
