Parkinsons vice help please

Hi Guys,
Any ideas on whether or not i can repair my old vice . The problem is after cleaning it up i noticed that when it was tightened up very tightly the quick release lever would move slightly and release the jaws.

The end of the spring seems to be broken off but i don't know if that was the cause of the problem.

I was thinking if I took the bracket out from under the vice that operates the quick release and replaced it with a piece of flat bar , I could then weld the carrier for the screw to it at the right height so that it becomes fixed and the vice would have to be wound all the way in and out only. Any thoughts

Is the perfect J vice if yes there very good vices and yes if the spring is not doing its job it could well be the problem have you had the screw out and cleaned it as well as the quick release mechanism,

The thread is made to pull its self into the quick release nut as its tightened so any dirt in there is a bad thing {I have the same vice}

I can see the spring is not right from the top picture

I would remove the half-nut and check it's condition. The bar is just the release mechanism, it'll be the nut that's worn or perhaps the spring.

ive got the same vice too - that bar doesnt look broken in the 2nd picture mine sometimes jumps back after the quick release is shifted but just thought that was the mech engaging in the screw.

There ya go - one broken spring. You can bend the end round if you anneal it first.
