Paper Clips . . .

Just been on what seemed like an endless shopping spree as a sherpa for my wife.... in London.....Camden Market etc...

Whilst there she spotted some baskets made from 'fused' paperclips.
Of course, it's now my task to try and recreate such items

How would one join paperclips. Are the soldered, Mig welded...
Any tips, ideas and help most welcome !!!

Soldering would definately work - but make sure you have lead free solder.

Your average paper clip is not much wider diameter than MIG wire, so it's got to be solder, surely? - Unless you're talking about huge paperclips.

I would think that arranging them into a basket shape and soldering them together would take ages, though! Wonder if there's some way of laying them over a bowl (heatproof one, mind) and then bulk-applying solder over them?

Just hope my wife doesn't see these - or I could well have the same problem

I bet they are made in Africa by children, the kind of thing can only be made affordable by using effectively slave labour.

Then again making them for 'er indoors is effectively slave labour, though I suppose if she likes the end result there might be some 'reward' before the next daft project kicks in.

Sounds like a nightmare job, keep us posted and send in pictures.
