Very interesting.. Some good points made all around.
I know not much about politics etc.. but it came across to me that the government backed management buy out scheme was the best way to go?
Had some big players backing it who sounded like they've got some good ideas for the place.

Hardly make ships, planes heavy equipment, electronic equipment, don't own water ,electric, gas, wont make steel so we buy it all in with what? profits move out of country skills same, the only thing s left hospitality & finance as industry moves finance will slowly move as well, then only a large theme park.

Rover got sold from BMW for a pound I believe to some ex management led team who were not backed, I think by the government but made favourites to take over. Other people had other ideas of what to do with the company (big job losses to make the company profitable) but did not appeal to government. Not long after big pension hole and the directors walking away with a lot of money and everyone on the dole.

Anyone read the sunday times rich list this week ? While some genuinely deserve their fortunes and are i presume decent people, i was wondering how many were like the people you have all been talking about, completely lacking morals or scruples and willing to sacrifice the jobs of thousands to make another huge amount of cash they will never get around to spending.

A discussion I had a couple of weeks ago put Donald Trump in the same bracket. Imagine what he might do if he becomes Pres to any country that doesn't play ball. We leave the EU and have to start negotiating new trade deals with a disgruntled Europe and with Trump. Eeek. Mind you, how do we think he views the chinese steel producers?
