I am coming to the end of my restoration on a mk1 mini but have a few small parts to paint, mainly door hinges and the seam strips. My spraygun is a devilbiss sri pro but I have only ever used it with the fan at full width. I presume to paint these parts I would be better reducing the fan, but I am unsure if I still leave pressure at 2bar and if by reducing the fan I also need to reduce the fluid flow, all guides I see are how to set up for a wide fan, is there a technique to setting for a small fan, thanks

reduce fluid flow and narrow the fan. pressure shouldnt matter 2 much

yes reduce paint flow as well as fan width as for pressure have a play on scrap and see what the result is with reduced fan it will use less air anyway

yeah fluid flow and fan need reducing, pressure will be fine. I have a cheap badger gravity feed air brush for this type of stuff, it is just easier I think, bit of thinned out paint in the cup and spray away, top up with thinners and run a few pots through to clean, job done. airbrush only cost me about 6 quid on ebay, as long as its kept clean its never given me any issues

air brushes are ok but you don't get much paint build with them
Thanks, will give it a try on a scrap panel, then hopefully get the parts painted, just I had painted them once but not happy with finish, mainly due to the fan being large I was getting overspray and rough finish in places, hoping that with a narrow fan won't have as much paint in the air around them

that depends on pressure and amount of paint flowing but I tend to get closer with things reduced

if your painting thin long stuff thats hanging up turn the fan quarter way round and u can spray vertical with it

not as much as with a gun but I find a few light coats does well, takes a bit longer, but the paint dries quicker too so its not much difference, but as I don't spray to deadlines I never really notice how long it takes

Just as update, I followed advice and they turned out ok, thanks.
Pics for evidence, colour looks off due to flash on phone
The seam strips were hard to paint as the pressure from spraygun blew them away so had to try to hold them steady, not easy while painting may need to sort a better method when I paint the mk2 mini I have waiting
