Painting prep on walls

I'm doing the last room in the house but finding hard going new plaster done

Dust coat with part water filler then use a brush to get the dust off hover over to get the most off and then wipe over with a damp sponge to clean it si near no dust looks good at the end but feel I'm doing to much what does every one else do I'm thinking sponge down is to much ?

Can I just do the brush off before painting again don't even need to hover

Quick dust then paint it with watered down emulsion. Tells you the mix ratio on the tin.

On new plaster I always like to do a watery pva coat first, it seems to then use much less thinned paint coats and it seems to provide a good base for the paint,

Not sure if anyone else does this, but it works for me.

yes i allways add 20/30 water to the mix for new plaster as it takes a all the mosture out first coat

the first room we done in the house was painted but half of the painnt was falling off i was thinking it might be damp walls but turned out to be they had just painted over the new plaster with paint and the walls where very dusty and i had to remove all the orignal paint filler and dust coat looks good now aand had no problems with the room since

apparenty you can add to much water 50/50 can be to much was told that by a painter he said if you used to much water there is not enough paint to bind it together

50/50 water paint or 50/50 paint water with decent paint like dulux emulsion miss coat is what we call it

We used to use trade emulsion for the first coat on new plaster, Wickes and Screwfix do their own versions. Never painted it till it had about six weeks to cure though.

just done a full house . buy a few tubs of quality contract emulsion . water 1st coat down just sufficient for the paint to roller on without dragging u will soon get the feel then second coat with full coat 6 hours later it may need a 3d the following day if your real fussy and want a perfect job
