I have a set of almost brand new alloy wheels for my Defender that are metallic anthracite grey, although I want to refinish them in gloss black. I was going to remove the tyres and have them powdercoated black, however I have now realised that they are appear to be powder coated black and then have been sprayed metallic grey by the manufacturer, as the backs of the wheels are still black, with visible metallic grey overspray through the spokes.
As the wheels are almost new (I only had them fitted for a month or so from purchase when I sold the Defender and bought another one which is now the same colour as the wheels); it seems a shame to remove the good quality powdercoating, so was thinking of respraying them black myself, as it obviously works as this is what the manufacturer appears to do. Would keying up the painted surfaces with fine Scotchbrite pads then gloss black base coat and 2k clear coat suffice? Or would a 2k gloss black be better?
