Painting over galv

Can you paint over heavy galv or do I need to completely remove it first.
For rocket stoves

You can. Fresh galv needs t wash. Mordant solution. Old galv, year old outside. Just scrub with a scotch pad to key it. But if it's going to be heated then it might not matter....

Nasty niffs come off burning galv, might pay to buff it all off or at least the bits that could get that hot.

Best to take it off first, rocket stoves get hot

If it's the galv box you were cutting in the other thread, the galv will still be on the inside.

I would chuck it and use something non galv for a stove.

No point in painting over it on a stove as it will burn off on first lighting.

If it's all you have, fire up the stove outside somewhere, and then wire brush all the powder off, and then paint it.

Nasty fumes! Both welding & rocket stoveing.
Also you'll not get a clean weld while making the stove so you could strip it all off to start with.
Or see if you can scratch up some nice un-galv mild steel & avoid all the bother.
But I suppose if it's what you have then it's what you have.
