Painting/ finishing bare steel?

In the past Ive just finished repair jobs with whatever was easy to get, or stuff I had at hand. However, I might as well start doing it right as Id like this repair job to last!

The bit in question was a section of inner wing on the mrs car. Cut out a bit of rot and put in a small mild steel panel. While in there I peeled back some of the underseal that seemed ropey and there was a little surface rust underneath. Cleaned all that up and its fine now, but is obviously without any protection at all.

Ive seen a lot of talk on here about epoxy mastics and suchlike. Could anyone recommend what product(s) I should use, bearing in mind its for an inner wing/arch?

Sorry to be so ambiguous but this place is a wealth of knowledge so Id like to hear peoples opinions as theyll be much more informed than mine!

I use phosphoric acid based rust convertor, coat with a couple of coats of stonechip and underseal.

Epoxy primer is the way to go. Either Jotun or Lechlar, the latter being best for a visible job.

epoxy is the best

although if its just a run around a dust over with etch and some underseal will keep it ok , depends how much you want to spend really

Unless you can get to the backside of the repair, whatever you put on the front will only have limited effect.

yes worth making a access hole if possible to spray in some cavity wax

best prep it for good results , it isnt overly fussy but a rough clean surface is best
