Painting Aluminium

Hi
I’ve been asked by a friend to paint some aluminium panels for him.
When I’ve painted ali before I used etch primer then primer then finished with the top coat.
He’s sourced the paint himself and has got HB Body 960 wash primer and the top coat. His supplier has told him he doesn’t need the primer. I just wondered if anybody else has used this wash primer like this.

In years gone by everyone used etch then epoxy primer came along, now no one I know uses etch they all use epoxy as its just a superior product

The wash primer is fine to use and topcoat over. Not sure what you mean about being told primer is not needed, primer is definitely needed for alloy, but primer is not needed to go over the etching/wash primer.

Bear in mind the wash primer is just a very thin coating to give grip, it won't hide any imperfections. If you need build you would use normal primer on top.
