Painting 20ft Containers

Hi

Just looking for a little advice really, im looking at painting 5 20ftx8ft containers inside and out and its not something I know much about. Ill be spraying them but was wondering if anyone has experience of painting these?

Im hopefully looking for 1 coat style paint as the containers are rough and I dont want to spend days putting on several layers. Ill be using a earlex hvlp sprayer, and would like the outside in green and the inside in white. Ill be wanting it in 5 litre tubs as hopefully its cheaper this way?

Ive been looking at the tormastic farm coatings but ive not seen a single review about it.

If i get a chance i will ask at work ,we put 10 of these on a pad for storage of parts and one of guys gave them a coat of paint ,it was supplied by the guys at the dock where we purchased them.

To be honest you'd be better using an airless setup for a job of that scale, we used to paint a narrowboat hull inside and out in about an hour, there's very little overspray, and the paint pot was 25 litre capacity so you don't have to keep topping up the gun, if you want so see how easy it is have a look here,

Hi there. Try International paints or Leighs. Both do excellent coating systems but you will have to apply at least 2 coats to get a really good durable finish. I agree that the airless systems are much better for the size of area and you will save if you buy in 20l amounts.

of course there is such a thing as a roller, often quite a quick method of painting with no wastage

Airless sprating is the quickest way for big areas, and it leaves a nice thick coat. A lot thicker than a standard gun would.
No need to thin paints either, so you canput it on thicker in one coat.

i used to do these years ago for biffa.
doing the inside is crap.
cover exposed skin with vasaline,it stops paint sticking.
its not the best job,but as a one off,you'll be ok.just make sure you wear a mask and overalls.
we used international enamal.quick coat of primer and then full coat of top coat.if you have not got airless. turn presure up high,open gun up to max.
blast it on and get out asap.

Didnt know about airless sprayers? I dont think I can afford to buy one for this job though after having a quick look on google so the hvlp will have to do. I was told rollering would be more wastefull than spraying by one of the paint suppliers I spoke to.

Why not hire one, what you save on thinner will go a long way towards or maybe cover the hire cost, let alone the time saved.

You need.......

Airless spray, hire one, as someone says takes an hour no wastage, easy to do too.!

The paint you need is 'Hempels' its about 3 quid a litre and they deliver.

I buy new containers and convert into WOrkshops,Offsite labs, Site offices, etc... and always have to repaint, hempels are the specialists and best ones to buy from, there are others but not as good or easy to apply, and probably not as cheap.
