Paint thinning

Hi All

I recently made some gates & want to paint them. Its a tedious job brush painting so I would like to spray them.
I have some hammerite paint but it wont go through the spray gun in its current state.
Does anybody know if Hammerite or similar type paints can be thinned out to the correct consistency. It says on the tin no to thin out.
Any advise would be appreciated.

I've thinned hammerite for spraying and had no issues.
I just used normal cellulose thinners too, 'proper' hammerite thinners is wayyyyyy too expensive!

Thanks for the response. When you say you had no issues do you mean no issues when applying the paint or no issues in relation to the paints corrosive prevention properties. Its the latter i'm more concerned with.
Sorry if its a dumb question but its been a long day at work any my brain's no longer working

I had no issues applying it John, it goes on quite well.
I haven't thought about the corrosive prevention properties but I don't think it would affect it, after all, you can buy thinners for it so it's ok to be thinned.
Both cellulose and synthetic thinners work fine by the way

If your going to use primer first, check it out and do a sample. Ive had issues with hammerite not drying over primer before now.

As for thinning, proper celulose thinners is best, cheap thinner/gunwash doesnt seem to do a very god job.

I didn't bother with primer, just a quick degrease then a couple of coats of hammerite.
The items I sprayed were roof truss setting tables for use indoors so rust protection wasn't really an issue.
