paint/rust proofing for subframe?

my car(Mini Countryman) needs a new engine, while it's out thought I'd clean up the subframe, knocked all the rust off! and wire wheeled it but still solid enough, might even do the struts/wishbones....

I see por15, chassis paint, hammerite mentioned from google searches, brush on would be easiest I think but open to suggestions, I'm guessing it was all the same coour as the car when new but black will be fine...

subframe is still on the car btw..just engine that's out..

Had my Alfa's subframe blasted to remove all rust and all the remnants of whatever crap they coated it with, painted it with epoxy paint (probably rust-busters stuff at that point), then 3M shultz everywhere there wasn't going to be something bolted in place, sprayed noxudol700 inside anything hollow.

Nearly decade of mostly daily use in all weathers and a complete lack of attention since and it's still looking good. The blasting was the important bit - perfect key to make the paint stick.

Yes blasting or dipping is the key to a long term satisfactory result.

As for POR15 and Hammerite, just no. You need an epoxy mastic type product really.

Shot blast, and a 2 pack epoxy paint finished off with Dinitrol underbody rust proofer.

I used ZG-90 cold galvanising paint on my subframe, rear beam and wishbones etc and it's held up well
