Paint remover best options

I've got a few steel jobs to do that have been painted 1 of them has been powder coated needs stripping off, one is a gate which I think is hamerite needs striping hinge fixed an repainted different colour. I've always just used sanding pad on angle grinder just wondered if there's better ways without taking it to blasters cheers

Just for future reference if you was repainting railings that had flaked off near corners in usual places an gone bits rusty how would you go about it just remove lose paint an sand it clean an re paint over previous paint or would you strip it all off an re paint it from base? Sorry for stupid question just been asked to do more jobs that are repairs an such I've been used to using new materials for to long

im using a grinder based wire wheel at moment on door shutters it does take the paint off rather well but its more of an edge tool as ive found out it strips if you flatten like a flap disc but by edge its much better

its stripped paint off 5 panels before rain started and still has plenty of life left in the wire wheel

wear googles and a mask you will need it while yousing it

Cheers pal I shall give it a whirl was using sanding pad but they clog up to quick. Are you stripping them to bare metal an repainting them?

stripping them to galvanised metal either painting them again or spray painting them is there choice weather i do them or they do them

I either use a flap disc or a paint n strip fleece disc. They're not cheap though at anywhere between £5 and £7 each depending on where you purchase.

They don't touch metal like welds and they only take off the paint.

Cheers for input guys, would you ever paint over existing paint if it's in good condition or strip it all off?

So long as it is tight I would have no issues. Obviously if there is an edge it may stand out more so you could feather the edge with some emery or sandpaper if you are slightly anal.

like ive posted earlier ive had to do it by grinder and that steel wheel they didnt want to use paint stripper so ive had to do it the way they wanted

well an update to this

I wouldnt mind doing so but im not the painter as of yet though wouldnt mind getting my hands on the air paint gun as ive tried the shultz gun

anyway this has turned out longer than i thought it might do with a grinder its been a pig in poke though grinding out the 6 strips and then the flat panels with the wire wheel per panel has driven me nuts

ive also got to try out the air needle gun with a better cfm rated compressor rated at 14cfm with a good rate of flow it took 6 -7 refills of the compressor just to get one panel clean but it wasnt clean grinder does a better job in less time

on using the needle gun i noted that the gun lost half pressure and drained the air really quickly gun didnt seem to have enough bang for its buck still did the work but i just let the compressor catch up before continuing

these doors are taller than me even while stood on 12" ramps to reach the top of the door

im on the last 7 panels now and then its a clean up and clean the underside of the top plate and also the top weather bar area to the doors I also have new jobs as well fit a toilet in and also fit a crash barrier infront of the doors
