Paint Removal

I understand that Nitromors Paint stripper has been re-formulated and is not know recommended for car paint.
Is there any other product that is available that works like the old formulation ?
I want to strip a complete car, it is not possible to take it to have it media blasted

These are what I would use, quite dusty but paint stripper is messy also?
They remove paint very quickly and also any surface rust there may be.

They don't last that long so are not that cheap, if you use them keep them as flat as possible as they last longer.

I stripped a cast iron fireplace using Diapol stripper from B and Q, then a stripping disc and Dremmel for the fiddly relief sections. It was much cheaper than Nitromors and I thought it was better and more effective than the Nitromors I had used on woodwork years ago.

I bought can of Parapiss, it was crap maybe it was the crap flavor and they saw me coming?
You should be able to get Synstryp, I used to bare metal cars with it and I am still buying it for general paint stripping.

Starchem do a Methylene Chloride based stripper (the stuff that used to be in Nitromors). A 5l can cost me about £20 from Avon Auto Colours, my local paint suppliers.
It flashes off quickly so slap it on and quickly cover it with polythene dust sheet.
I did my son's MGB GT using the Starchem stuff and a two handed Tungsten Carbide scraper. I had about a quarter of a can left when I finished.

^^^ This. Get larger ones to fit your polisher (angle grinders run too fast). When using, make sure the disk runs 'off' edges and not 'onto' - the disk hitting edges cuts them up and they don't last long. Used carefully they're quite economical. Plus they'll just rip through filler and clean up most of the rust (still need to surface treat it though).

It's quicker than stripper in my opinion since the paint just turns to dust. No special cleanup and all you need is earmuffs. I HATE paint stripper with a vengeance. Expensive, the tiniest dot on your skin is horrible, the gloves, the cleanup and it only works a layer at a time.

Just be careful of heat build up. Just common sense.

I use a sand blasting pot for the tight bits.

On the basis of the article in Practical Classics recently, I got some "Strypit" which I had to source on eBay, it's much better than the Nitromors that I've had for a few years which has never been all that good on car paint. Stuck it on, left it for a bit, stuck a bit more on, down to bare metal very quickly.

I tried to get some of the Wickes stuff but there's a shortage at the moment, apparently this stuff is as good as Strypit but easier to find.

Media blasting is by far the best way and your left with a perfect surface if you can do it

Yeah,blast it,painstripper is a nightmare to work on such a large surface and will take forever to remove layers of baked on car paint and youll still have loads of sanding after.

I'm a fan of paintstripper, done two cars with it so far.Yes it can be messy and sting a bit, but in a small garage that I paint in its not dusty.Its cheaper and involves less travel than media blasting.
Last car I used the starchem stuff and it seemed to work ok.Needed two full coats of stripper and then just extra in stubborn places/filler.Then used a da with 120 grit on it and cordless drill with wirebrush for intricate parts.
