Paint over sound deadening?

Perhaps this is not the right forum? but I may as well ask..

I'm done welding the floor pan and to get to the metal I took up the factory sound deadening (the asphalt mat stuff..)

I'm gonna put some more down and probably use roof flashing or dynamat and was wondering if I should paint over it? as it was from factory.. or paint the floor then apply the mat?

Will the paint stick to it? I'm thinking no as it's like tin foil..

you should paint the floor first,Then put your sound deadener over the top.as for painting it,do you really need to ,as you are putting your carpet over the top.The sound deadening pads we use in the body shop can be painted over.But you must remember to remove the thin film on top.

Definitely paint the floor first before sticking the stuff on. Otherwise the steel can rust under the sound deadening. Roof flashing would be messy and unlikely to stick to the panel very well. Bitumen based damping is cheap enough from all good motor factors, but the dynomat will be more effective.

Yeah I'm gonna put a coat of epoxy down and then put the sound deadening on top, I suppose their is no point in painting over it as it will be behind panels/carpet etc

I have read mostly positive stuff about roof flashing providing it is applied properly but I'm not 100% yet

The VW guys are very big on roof flashing. Seems to work well, but try asking on the VZi forum as lots of them have used it and can probably give an idea what it is like long term.

it used to be called flashband. sticks like sh ,.,.,./t to a blanket aLL the cowboy builders use it instead of lead but good for what u want it for

Only just seen this, my first question would be why do you want to paint over it ???

Initially I wanted to paint over it so as to make it look a bit more factory.. but thinking about it more I don't need to so won't be bothering
