hi, I am planning on painting some alloys and also doing some touch up repairs on a 1990 car. Is there a nozzle size that could work for all of this ie priming, basecoat and clear. I will be using 1k paint as doing the work in the garage. What about the touch up HVLP guns. I don't mind investing within reason for a tool that will last. Any recommendations.

You need a mini gun for those jobs. A 1.0mm nozzle will do.

1.4 set up would be a good all rounder but be prepared to thin your primer a little more than manufacturers recommendation and learn how to set the gun up. Gun wise, im known to be old skool on this site and as such stick to my contemporary guns, HVLP are maybe less forgiving to a beginner, they were invented to save the environment, not the sprayers sanity. Just my opinion. Other opinions are available.

I have heard LVLP guns are good for beginners and small areas so that may be a option. Upside to is that they use so little air that you can have 2.5-3hp compressor that will run it and a air fed mask.
Down side large areas are difficult to do with them.
