Paint containers

Are there any reasons why paint can't be stored in a bottle rather than a tin or round container? Accepting the fact that mixing it before use will obviously be a tad harder than just stirring it in a tin, is it feasible to bottle enamel paint? Only reason I'm wondering is that I tend to decant a small amount from the tin as and when I need it, into a small jar, and the tins are a pain in the jacksy to pour from.

Ideally needs to be something PTFE based to prevent either leaching from or into the plastic by the paint or solvents contained in it...
However, if perhaps say you were decanting 1 litre from a 5 litre tin into a bottle and planning to use it up within a couple of weeks you should be fine.

I would recommend chucking the bottle at the end though. Some plastics can become quite weak or brittle on exposure to the solvents contained in modern paints due to the required reduction in the old VOC's that used to be common place...
There is a higher degree of plasticiser based solvents, which as you'll appreciate plasticise the plastic

Whenever i thin stuff to spray i always end up with a bit left over. I use empty coffee jars, the wide top is easier to pour into.

I've got a few odds & ends, usually candies I don't want to lob. Misc plastic containers I can liberate from the kitchen without a rollocking and glass jars too.
Some of the pearls & 1k clear I buy come in plastic bottles, much handier than tins when it's smaller qtys.

With enamel the less air there is the better probably, it likes to skin over. Should be a good candidate for a placcy bottle being oil based I guess.

Recently I found some 2k in the garage which I must have bought 15 years ago from RS Bike paints that was shipped in plastic bottles. The paint was a bit thick so I added a little more thinners than the 10/15 %, it has dried Ok, good enough for painting engine bay brackets and radiator shrouds for the Rangie. The original hardener had turned to a block of milky resin and an un-opened plastic bottle of thinners was almost empty, just a cm or so left.

If you have a wife/ girlfriend that dyes her hair, rescue all the activator bottles you can. Very useful for thinners, gunwashing, storing small quantities of paint, filling airbrushes, etc etc.
