Paint cleaning compound

just cleared a small place out and come across an almost full 1gall bucket of Synthetic paint compound thats gone solid.......
was gonna buy a smaller tub but thought might try and save this as it's so expensive......
gonna empty it out and break it up in a bigger bucket but do u use WATER to soften it ????
any ideas.......... theres no rush if it take a month to soften......
seems such a waste to bin it without trying......

if its synthetic paint as i remember only synthetic thinners will work ,but to be honest if its already solid i recons its goosed,its an air dry paint and by the sounds of it its already dry . if its got patina sell it to drew pritchard....
