why does it need a hinged lid? i just use any old tub that is big enough to take the brushes. i have a pickled onion jar on the kitchen window sill witha few brushes in and some thinners. does the job fine for me and every other painter in the land...

You might find a tea caddy with a hinged lid.
I use a coffee jar with a hole in the lid to take the handle of my brush (push fit). This allows the brush to hang in the thinners rather sitting on the bottom of the jar thus bending the bristles, and it keeps the brush out of any sediment that might settle out.

id go along with that...having worked places where theyre kept in a tin of gunge and still need wiping before use , why not just wipe the paint off and keep em nice

depends on the quality of the job and how long it will be before you need the brush again but I just wrap brushes in clingfilm, saves any issue with getting the thinners out of the brush when you want to start using it again

I just use a coffee jar with screw lid for things like that, fortunately my wife is a coffee junkie lol.

I do keep the thiners after cleaning my gun I tip it in the jar
If I have a mess on the floor or spill paint, I use it from the jar to clean it up
I put my paint sticks in it, my measuring paint rulers, brushes swill,them round and wipe them clean
I have a plactic sweet jar at present, works great, however it is a fire risk, so it needs upgrading,
I would like to buy a mettal contaner with a hinged fire lid on it, if it catches fire the lid automatically
closes however there very expensive
