oxford question

I've recently bought a 180amp oxford oil cooled welder and its currently set up for single phase operation but i have a new length of lead and plug and want to reset it for three phase. My question is can somebody tell me for definate which colour wire goes to which terminal? The lead is the new design with a grey,black,brown and green/yellow earth . thankyou chip

Hi Chip. The oxford oil cooled set only use two phases of the 3 phase. If you connect one phase to the 0v terminal and another phase to the 400v terminal, and the earth, green/ yellow wire to the earth terminal. The third phase is not used. It does not matter about which colour wires you choose for the phases as it is not phase sensitive.

Thankyou thats just what i needed,i didn't realise there'd be a spare wire. The last time i saw into one of these it was mostly red wires! I suppose the colour coding only really applies when a motor is involved due to rotation,is that right? cheers chip
