Yep big and very heavy and a great machine, used to make boat trailers with one about 20 years ago, would run all day without a problem...I intend to buy one for the workshop when I find a bargain one.

There big and heavy! They weld very well keep an eye on the oil level and with old ones there is a chances the oil has PCB in it.

Out of intrest does the transformer just sit in the oil to cool or is there some heatsinking /radiator work going on?

You'll need some very very heavy mains cable to run a 360amp Oxford.

Now that what you call a welding transformer..........even if it is one of the low ampage small Oxfords.

mind you it was a lot cheaper then about £50 for the container, i guess with the oil prices going through the roof it pays to shop around

I do have access to some transformer oil at work that are PCB free but have failed 32KV test but would be fine for many years to come for welding transformers. If anyone found in need.

We have a dozen or more 50-gallon drums full of transformer oil that was taken from 160kV generators. Sadly some of it is contaminated with PCBs, alas we're not sure which barrels now as although we dipped them and had them lab analysed, the markings have washed off the drums so we don't know which is which

Muppit! We removed all the contaminated oil 20years ago after having it all tested. We change oil occasionally when it fails the testing but is still good for 5KV.

im going to keep my eye out for one of these or maby a pickhill batman, are the batman re-badged oxford? just wondering what these units draw input current? would like to run them off 2.5mm t&e if possible. cheers

the oxford is a pickhill it will run on 2.5mm on a 16 or a 20amp fuse or breaker. fully cranked up to 180amps continuous would need a 30 amp supply
