Oxford and Cambridge oil cooled welders

I was under the asupmtion all these type welders were DC...Had a mate around the place today betting his life away they are AC come on lads what are they as on monday ile be seeing him again..

Years ago we had a big old oil cooled greenish box in the corner of one of the bays. It did ac and DC as I remember it
Burnt loads of unusual rods with it copper ali etc
Wish I new what it was big thing it was not a thing you should want to shift more than inches

Both BOC & Lincoln were green in my youth, I can remember a 300+ amp BOC AC DC unit in a blacksmiths shop

Pickhill were a cheap(er) copy of the original oil cooled Oxfords; all AC so far as I know, without converter boxes to make em AC/DC.
