Overalls

After setting fire to myself last night while grinding, can anyone recommend a decent priced set of fireproof/flame reterdent overalls please? Was grinding with a large handheld and cutting disc when I noticed a funny smell, I stopped what I was doing and had a look around and ...................nothing! Until I noticed the flames on my overalls and trousers underneath!!! Singed a few hairs on my inner leg at the knee but managed to get away without any serious burns. I always wear gloves, ear defenders, goggles/mask and cromer hat, but have never thought about flameproof ovies before. I now think I need to. Any ideas appreciated.

Dickies FR proban ones are pretty good, as are bizweld ones.
Although, should you be firing grinding sparks directly at them, they will soon smoulder.

Im now on the Nexus hi viz flame retardants, cheeper and better than dickies IMHO....

I had this problem too, Now wear a leather apron when welding and grinding,(Aldi, came with a pair of heavy gauntlets,excellent value less than a £5-00)

just get an apron for grinding or point the sparks else where and wear knomex (im not sure if thats how you spell it) but i wear it and it works well

See if you can find ex german army tank suits, flame retardant, very hard wearing and they have a shoulder holster so you can always pack a rod in the work place. Oh and they look good as they get grottier.

Cant comment on the Nexus ones, how much are they snowy?

Seen the dickies ones for about £20 in a lot of places.

The tank suits sound good, I have an old style army surplus store near me, will pop in at the weekend. Failing that I will have a scout about the net for suppliers of the other suggestions. To be honest I thought they were more expensive than that, £20 odd quid doesn't seem too bad, last time I saw some advertise they were around £50! Must be looking in the wrong places!

Got a pair off E-blag - brand new for around £8.00 bargain! They do come up on there from time to time so it's worth checking.

I too got that bargain set from Aldi, really heavy leather, great value. Those along with my Dickies Proban overalls should do the trick hopefully.

any overalls i find catch fire eventually or prehaps thats cus i work in desil and oil filled engine rooms and they absorb alot of oil haha o well worst ive done is a whole sleeve stick to jeans and a leather apron, tesco £3 jeans were them till there knakered then new pair.

Yes, well in the meantime i would suggest: watch were you send the sparks!
We had one guy working with us on construction sites and he never learned it!!!ever!! he caught fire a lot of times but still kept grinding with the sparks straight onto his feet and legs! It became less funny when he missed out a parked car......we had to replace the windshield, out of his paycheck!

I do try to direct the sparks, but sometimes it's just not possible if in an akward position. I will however be looking into an apron aswell. My local army surplus has no tank suits, so I reckon between an apron and ebay I should be able to sort it out.

what size are you.Im back to work tomorrow and we have to wear fire proof overalls as standard PPE all our gear is fire/flame proof.If you want I will see if there are any old pairs kicking around

Hehe, yeah i know it's not always possible to direct the sparks where you want them!
Oh well...we all catch fire sometimes, it happens! Was doing pulsed welding in spray transfer yesterday and my leather (!) welding glove caught fire!

New overalls time. They are in tatters! Gonna get a couple of pairs of Dickies FR Proban i think. Ebay perhaps. My overalls i have now have 112T on the label. All the sizes listed are for example 40R - I presume that would be 40 inch chest and regular. I have no idea what chest i am, trying to match it up to my jeans etc never works, at least i know the overalls i have now fit ok, so wanna get an exact match on size.
Whats the equivalent to 112T?

112T is 112cm : Tall,
So 44" Chest, thats about right for a 40" chest allowing for a shirt & jumper under, and a bit of expansion for a burger or two

Mesure your chest then Paul? Then pick a size slightly bigger than that, so you'll have some room in them...cos most of the time you'll wear something under them, t-shirt or summat...
