Over thinking purchase

I do have a quick question though about cutting angles, I'm going to do box and some of the angle at 45 degrees, is it best to cut them with electric chop saw or with a mitre block and hacksaw. Screwfix got 50% off a cheap electric jobby, but if I remember correctly it says max cut size is 120mm x 50mm. but I guess I would hire a much better one for a day to get it all cut.

I've had all the steel cut to length, within a couple of mm so just need to cut the angles.

just draw a line and cut with a 115mm angle grinder.

if you haven't got a grinder, you need one.

i have one lying around somewhere. Was good for learning tig but i prefer wearing my glasses. Haven't got to mess about trying to find them to mark another cut then

I really ought to try them, I wear bifocals and if I tilt my head to use the reading (close up) part the weld disappears from the window in the mask! saving grace is I have monovision (short sighted in one eye and long sighted in the other) so I take my glasses off to weld as a temporary solution.

I pulled the trigger and ordered the Parweld XTi 160 Inverter Arc Welder, electrodes, chipping hammer, helmet, and some thin cutting discs, Steve at WeldEquip is throwing in a pair of MUREX Superior Gauntlets should have it Monday...

you made a wise choice, It will pretty much run at full whack on a 13 amp plug. I have run mine at 150 amps with a 4mm rod from a 13 amp supply and the fuse was fine. ran about 8 rods through it and all was fine.

I use mine for tig too and it is just as good at that

it has done everything I need lol, very impressive how much metal it puts down with a 4mm rod compared to a 2.5mm

my next toy is going to be an r-tech mig250...when I can afford it (not any time soon, although I have a land rover savings fund that is proving difficult to spend...)

i nearly had enough for the mig, but then life got in the way again, as it tends to do, then after starting to save again i needed a new drill, then after starting to save again work started bending us over and refusing to pay us our full amount (still in the middle of afairly large union battle with hr about recovering wages that we are owed), then my van died (which i still haven't had fixed). i will get there eventually. once i have the mig i will be saving for a decent sized garage/warehouse/workshop that i can put a 2 post lift in, decent sized lathe and mill, a press and some slip rolls, maybe a box and pan folder and a big cold saw.

that will take its time, but i am still contemplating whether i need to buy stuff in so or make it myself, depends on whether i plan on employing anyone to use it really

Yes i no what ya mean....had a good job for 22 years..had an accident...and that was the end of that...so do days hear and there so saving is a bit slower ..but we will all get there in the end.....

re the magnification lenses, I use one and it works brilliantly for me.

You know with 2.5mm and 3.2mm, TIG kit and a 160 amp + inverter there is very little you cant weld with the right joint prep
