The attachments on an incoming email are in little boxes at the top of the email. Annoyingly not only the 'wanted' attachments are shown, but there is also a vast number of these boxes with 'image' files in. These are the multitude of image files attached to people's email footers etc.

Is there a way of turning off the unwanted attachment files?

I think it’s to do with the format of the email, if it’s html it displays the images in their normal place, if it’s set to plain text it shows them as attachments. I can’t remember where you set it though…this might help

Thanks @daleyd, looking which emails this happens with, it looks like senders settings rather than my software.
I can't seem to adjust it though.

I find that Apple mail is the worst offender.
