It'll be the same length as one made without a tang so no problem, but you might find it doesn't machine very nicely, possibly be better off chopping it apart with an angle grinder to get through the case hardening. Can I just part off the end and drill and tap or will it be too short?
I wouldn’t - unless I had another reasonable use for it. First thing is to check the hardness with a file. Even if hard on the outside it may be soft in the centre. The tang is likely tough, so an angle grinder would be favourite. Many tapered arbors are not 100% tapered (‘waisted‘ along part of the taper) and still have more than enough grip.
If it won’t take a tap, sensibly, a hole could be drilled and a tang loctited in, if too short to self-eject from a tailstock, for instance.
If buying another, just check it has the correct thread for your drawbar. That said, I think I have at least 4 differently threaded drawbars - as well as in three different lengths!
It's not so much the £12 as the long wait from China. Quality is most impressive though. Accuracy of course yet to be determined.£12 I'm worth considerably more per hour

OK £12 is what I paid I think. Postage obviously extra but not much. They don't come with a spanner though. Is it standard mt2 ?
If you want to sell it on, I could do with it
If you want to recoup costs and are willing to package and sort postage, I'll transfer some money. Pm details.OK £12 is what I paid I think. Postage obviously extra but not much. They don't come with a spanner though.
The accuracy will surpass most milling machine spindles. It's not so much the £12 as the long wait from China. Quality is most impressive though. Accuracy of course yet to be determined.
The last 2MT arbor I bought from china (cheap rubbish from bang good) was not quite 2MT. It only actually touched the inside of the spindle at one end.Beware of cheap from china.
That was an ER 32 collet chuck. You can have it free, if you want to b*****r up your spindle. It was loose enough to just feel the ‘wobble’ but not felt, by hand, if the drawbar was pulled up tight (but lousy cutter run-out). The failing was easily demonstrated by blue-ing the part and testing for contact. I would suggest a check, before using if it is from a cheap rubbish supplier.
Same here. I suspect the majority of the stuff is made by the same factory in China.I've never had this with any of the stuff I've had.
Do consider cheap cutwel is chinese with decent QC I guess over time you learn what shops to use

It's the 3 week wait putting me off - for my brother for Christmas to go with his bargain Axminster mini mill CNC conversion I found for him.Just buy the correct one, you tight ....![]()
