Optrel Satellite

A puzzle for you lads. I have a satellite and had a funny response from it today. Weldequip gave some advice a year or too ago regarding internal batteries and solar charging after I had problems with a parweld helmet, always leave it in the light to charge the batteries if like me your welding is spasmodic. I've had quite a bit of mig over the last couple of weeks and left the optrel out in the sun for a while(charge the batteries) between jobs.
When I came to use the helmet dead no action at all, threw me into a bit of a panic. I moved it inside the shop and left it for while, when it had cooled down(black gets hot in the sun) worked fine again. Is there a temperature sensor???

I don't think they have temp sensors.
The welding itself should charge them up enough.
Mine has sometimes been left in a dark cupboard for a few weeks at a time with no problems so far.

I don't understand it, it works perfectly now. I was just looking for an explanation as to what might have happened, seems like nobody else knows the answer.
I thought with the wide coverage on here somebody might have had a similar experience, seems not.

Maybe not related, but I've noticed that the LCD screen on my EOBD scanner doesn't like being left in direct sunlight for any length of time.

Possibly the lens in your Optrel is based on a similar technology?

That might be the answer. It works just as superbly as it always did so no harm done.

Liquid crystal displays in general don't like being exposed to sunlight; if they get hot they tend to turn black... we've seen this on electronics equipment at work.

If I remember LCD don't work well above 50c
That's why a lot electronics say operating temperature is 0C to 40C
I have come across LCD that become permanently black (Cameras LCD left on car parcel shelve).
So don't risk it leaving in direct sunlight-indirect if you must
