Had a week off last week and decided to have a sort out of the steel rack and discovered that quite a lot of it is starting to go quite rusty saveable but if i leave it not going to improve

So a quick look round the garden and found enough concrete blocks to make a 10ft trough and £10 of black 1200 membrane from screwfix and an order of Citrix acid from Amazon i had this the next day!



so far about a ton of metal through it and painted , might even get efficient and actually record what i have



Trouble is im looking at everything now and might as well do all my stock that is starting to turn...



Some of the stuff for turning I'll probably grease or ACF50 but i guess theres no harm in primering it to be chucked in the lathe

Looks like a tidy job but to be honest I would prefer my stock to have a layer of of light rust over a layer of paint.
I have most stuff galvanised and a pre dip sorts out any rust but paint could be an issue

Nice idea but welding galv a pain and god knows how much it would cost to do all the bits I have , to me just makes it easier now just grab it off the rack cut to length and weld . Making too much noise can be an issue so derusting in bulk gets it over and done with in one go

as soon as my steel turns up I wash it down with petrol...(outside) and then get its first coat of grey primer..
It strikes up easy thru the first coat but anything for longish term stock gets 2 coats......
that does mean a quick flick with a flap wheel at weld points...still way better than working with rusty stock.....
Bonus tho.....it's easy to mak with boiler chalk, pencil or felt tip...
