Can you give me your opinions on this bit of welding please???

I didnt have the confidence to go all the way to the edge of the hinge. I made the hinge from 10mm tube with a 1mm wall and 8mm rod, welded to 20mm box with 2mm wall

Looks okay apart from the top half of the top weld doesn't appear to be catching the tube properly. Your settings seem okay though.

Peter - it's actually part of my 1st welding project (I have a thread about it in the Projects forum).

Marty - thanks for taking the time to reply on both threads, I know why the weld mssed the top, I welded that part left handed instead of turning the work around, nevermind I will not make that mistake again.

Bob - thanks, it's so hard when your starting out. I think the biggest thing is listening to the sound that the machine is making, also getting in a comfy position before your start your weld really helps me, I don't know about what others think about that.

Absolutely. Try and brace yourself somehow by leaning against something solid etc. Do a dummy run to see that you can move from start to finish easily. Also, if you are putting down a long run move into a more comfortable position as you lay the run down rather than moving into a more uncomfortable position, if you see what I mean.

Looks good at least you didn't weld both sides of the same part like my mate did when making a hinged gate on a frame .

LOL, I had to think about that for a second!!! I wonder if I would have done the same.....
