Opinions on table design...

Gday guys, been playing with the new welder and getting over working on the floor. Once im more confident in my welds ill be making a table.

Been playing on google sketch up and ive made my design. Looking of any input you think may improve the table be it extra supports will it hold up etc etc

1. I want a table that is mobile ( have have four 100kg each capacity wheels not drawn in the picture)

2. I want to be able to walk around it so no permanent fixtures.

3. It would hold perhaps 150kg item once or twice in its life time.

Materials are:

Top 1200mmx600mmx10mm weighing in at 57kg

and about 8.5meters worth of 38mmx38mmx3mm RHS

So the total weight of the table will be around 130kg

The bracing between the legs at the bottom, id be inclined to move them up about 150mm from the floor. As for height, seems a bit on the low side, depends though, will you be sitting/standing mostly?

Thanks Hitch, i didn't make clear that they will have wheels which will be about 120mm to 150mm high making it closer to the desirable working height of 900mm

I'd swap the two braces at the bottom for one. Makes it easier to put stools etc underneath and is more comfortable if you ever sit at it.

as above and put a few stiffening gussets under the top rails in the corners

I would put a diagonal in at the back and do something about the front lower bar.

Ok, 57 kg for the top, roughly 30 kg for the tubing. Where do you hide the remaining ~43 kg?

You should make the frame wider at the bottom. With only 400 mm it will not exactly give you a save stance.
