here we have the front drivers side sill jacking point on the megane. as you can see, it has suffered a bit of damage after the missus was diverted through a farm access track designed for tractors after a crash blocked the road. very over grown grass and apparently a large rock on the track which caused this damage after the front wheel went over it and the car came back down. she rang me when it happened and I managed to get it off without doing any further damage, which was nice.
anyway, I don't want to cut this part out as it is right at the front, about 10mm further outside this photo on the right is the start of the wheel arch. the jacking point appears to be spot welded from inside the sill. 2 of the spot welds have part broken away from the sill, the other 2 are ok. plus I cant really find a sill panel as it is incorporated into the rear quarter and roof guttering too.
so far I am thinking it might be easier to cut a small section of the flat area on top of the sill where the door closes, use a bar to try and manipulate the metal back to a relatively normal shape, seam weld the jacking point back on and then use filler to smooth everything out before paint. then I can weld the panel I have cut out back in using normal 1mm sheet and it will be covered with a tread plate anyway so doesn't have to be perfect. the tread plate is bonded on so cant be removed for mot.
I don't need this to be perfect, just good enough to past the mot in 2 months time.
any suggestions?
its also worth noting I don't have the space or storage to remove the seats or carpet on this side when repairing it so the less sparks involved the better. I have a jigsaw and drill to make any cuts, and when welding will just have to cover everything and have someone fire watching with an extinguisher
