On this day in 1982, an extremely daring and complex mission commenced to deny stanley airfield to the Argentinians. The operation was a success. If you have a spare 40 odd minutes this is well worth a watch, enjoy

I was at Waddington from 1974 to 1978 on 9 Sqdn and worked on 607 and the others. I say worked on them but apart from the electrics/electronics there was very little to do on them. Over their life the electrics had been altered to fit various refits and basically it was the original cabling. Being the aircraft was the nuclear deterrent and on 24hr alert standby it was a nightmare for the electricians who had to do checks on the bombing systems regularly and quite often had problems that always turned out to be a dry joint where the harness had been altered. Finding it was a nightmare for them. I was a engine fitter and never had to open the engine bay doors as the Olympus 200 and 300 hundred series were bullet proof. The 200 series used a bit of oil but that was that.
