Just a follow on from yesterday talkin about when kids should leave home I've just gone and shouted the 21 yr old ( who is still in bed !!) ---------(makes my blood boil ARGH!!!!)

do you want to see the near total eclipse

had to scream and shout up to his room to get an answer, 'nah',
I said you wont see another well you might if you are VERY lucky.

Well I accidently looked at the sun without my mask and have gone blind, the good news is that is has finally seared away the image of Norm in his mankini from my retinas so I can sleep easy now!

Had a good view here, made my missus a mask out of a welding glass and an old cardboard box.

My Esab New Tech helmet didn't darken though, but covered 1 sensor up and it worked, until the sun had nearly gone then it wouldn't darken at all. So luckily found another glass in the garage for the last bit.

It didn't cover the sun completely here, just a thin sliver left.

I watched the faero isles replay, it went totally black there for a few seconds.
Totally amazes me the power of the sun, I am awestruck by it.
Even though it went darkish and cold, it was amazing how bright it still was, considering 90 odd % was covered.
you can be stood in front of the biggest heater bonfire furnace etc and the effect can only be measured in feet, whereas the sun is average of 93,000,000 miles away also pushing through the atmosphere etc and it can still burn you and things, that is some awesome power source.
And we think we are powerful?---- HA we have a LONG WAY TO GO to beat nature .

Was all misty and dull here, got slightly darker. Disappointed, was quite looking forward to seeing it. Saw the one in 99, my wife was sitting her bike test that day. She passed!

...and in cosmic terms our sun is quite small. Isn't the energy from the sun regarded as the source of all other energy in the solar system (apart from cosmic radiation)? ie the energy from fossil fuels etc originated from the sun allowing photosynthesis and plants to grow and fossilise down to carbon based fuels.

ps it was cloudy here :-(

Got a bit dark and saw a bit of the sun briefly get covered and that's it
