One of those days...

Coffee
30 minute walk/jog to gym for 7am
2hours in gym.
Walked back home. (Not leg day!)

Spent an hour and a half tidying/moving my "raw materials pile" so empty gas cylinders, breadtrays full of scrolls + finials. Box section. Rebar. You know the sort of stuff.

Knocked off to have a coffee, shower and get changed to go out for lunch,
Started to take my welding onesie [1] off and wrenched my shoulder and tricep.
I can't move my arm now!

Makes me wonder why I bother...

Brufen or a topical NSAID if you can reach. Sooner you get the swelling under control after the injury the less pain and a shorter recovery period.

Oh deep heat/ralgex sprays the names fill me with dread, I use to lift the odd weight or two, to power lifting competition level, couple of times you pull a muscle or something, and you reach for the spray, I was a ralgex man, loved the smell, but several words of warning:

If you spray your shoulder make sure it does not go into your armpit, the other when you have hurt your knee or leg, do not spray it when sat on the loo, with your trousers and pants around your ankles, because after doing the business and then spraying the leg knee or what ever and you pull your pants and trousers up, be ready for the almighty burning sensation in the wedding tackle, it does hurt and off course trying to hoist yourself up so the wedding tackle can be in the sink so you can try and wash off the burning pain is all so has some dangers and by the way Ralgex does not wash off, and it hurts, trust me I have done it a couple of times and regretted it both times.

Considering what I was lifting in the gym, I was in Tesco's putting the shopping from the trolley on to the conveyor belt lifted two tins of cat food and my back went into spasm and I crawled out of Tesco almost on my hands and knees in agony.

I went for a job interview a couple of years ago - seemed to be going great.
Sat down for a coffee and a "chat" after the weld test.
Reached forward for my cup and put my back out. [1]


I didn't get the job.


[1] was only about six months after I seriously hurt my back lifting a 250kg flail mower onto a trailer when it slipped.

I use voltarol never found anything that works faster for me, But i did once pull a muscle trying to reach up to a shelf for it...

sounds a bit like my day except for the bits I've removed. think it started to go wrong when you went to the gym.

On the serious note, my sciatic nerve went into spasm last year. Thought I'd really %(*%& it up! couldn't lift my foot 6" from the ground, went to A&E - on a bank holiday!!! - hot water bottle, max strength co-codomol I was right as rain in a week or so - better than the last time it went!

Something similar happened to me, I reached over the desk to answer the phone and my back went. I could hardly speak for the pain. Don't know what the person at the other end thought. I honestly feared I was going home in a wheelchair that day.

Reminds me vaguely of a guy I knew when I was a student. His girlfriend, having found some rather compromising polaroids of him and another lass hidden in his room, offered to give him a very, very personal massage.
