One of those days

Had one of those days.... New wesco regulator and bottle so all set to go. Stop start feed. Put it down to rusty wire (migs been sitting a while not being used). Managed to unwind enough of that to get the worst of the rusty stuff off. Then jammed the wire in the tip playing with power settings. No problem I thought, have a bag of spares. So I butchered it getting the old tip out and then found the spares were 0.8 rather than 0.6.

Well with the wrong tips managed to put down some of the best welds I've done. Weird, but just one of those days.

I've found that there's often little advantage to swapping a .8 tip in favour of a .6 when using the thinner wire. However if you go to a 1.0mm tip or larger and should the wire protrusion get a bit too long the wire can just 'bounce' off the metal and stop the weld. However if you're using some of the cheaper wires or tips the actual size of each compared to the stated sizes could cause a jam at the tip.
