One of hydraulic adapter

Evening all,

Unfortunately I've had a c0ck up today when a one off adapter I had welded together came out of the chuck on the lathe as I was tidying up, in the process it's knackered the thread
It doesn't seem to be possible to buy any kind of hydraulic adapter that's an M24 x 2 thread, this is to go into a Ford Zetec block, it's where the oil filter mounts but I need to fit it to a JIC/AN12 thread.
So I need an adapter that has M24x2 male one end, a hex in the centre and JIC/AN12 male the other end.
I would make it myself but I haven't got the screw cutting skills yet and I've not got the time to learn, the car is due on the rollers in a couple of weeks.

Is there anyone that could help and make one please? Obviously willing to pay for it.

You'd think so yes but try and find a fitting with an M24x2 thread, they just don't seem to exist, no idea why Ford used it..

M24 x 2 looks to be a standard metric fine thread. Is there any reason not to buy a bolt of this thread size, drill a hole down the middle and perhaps turn a spigot onto it to aid in brazing to the other part? If they make M24 x 2 setscrews, it will be threaded al the way to the head, so there is your (rather large) hex - in that case the spigot would need to be on the other part.

How about a BMW sump plug and drill/bore /tap it NPT then screw an NPT to JIC nipple into it?

All the references to that I could see are M24 x 1.5 pitch. He needs M24 x 2.0.

As 8ob says, M24 x 2 is used on sump plugs. It also pops up as used on diesel injectors (lots of timesert kits for that thread).

Potentially but there aren't any scrappies near me that allow you to go and take bits off cars anymore, all closed down, the best one is now a container self storage place

This could work, although would need to go larger to keep the bore size, but the principle could work, thanks.

Certainly an option, nice sealed face too, think I'll get one ordered but will probably tap it UNF or BSP as I haven't got many NPT taps, can just use some thread sealant on it.

Loctite might be better as the installation/removal hex will be on the AN adaptor and if you ever unscrew it, the ex-sump plug could be left in the engine with no simple way to remove it.

I wonder what size hole is in the AN part of the fitting? That would determine the smallest thread on the other end so as not to restrict the bore. A metric fine or UNF thread might be better than a pipe thread as they will go up by 2mm or 1/16" whereas pipe threads have much bigger leaps between sizes. It is also a lot easier to tap a fine thread into a relatively thin-walled part than a coarse thread.

An AN12 bore is 17.5mm typically. Trying to find either a single bolt that isn't 12.9 grade at a sensible cost or a sump plug in the UK is proving to be challenging, looks like it seems to be used on motorbikes more than cars.

Having looked at the chart below it may be better to buy a JIC -12 nipple and recut/thread one end 24mmx2mm,

Think I've got a solution, ordered an AN10 - AN12 adapter, then have found a guy who will turn down the AN12 end and cut the M22x2 thread onto it, should be perfect hopefully. Got it wrong in my original post, it's AN10 I need not AN12.
