I just got asked to weld the chassis on a flatbed combi VW. The tubular cross-member that the rear suspension hangs off has rotted out of the fore and aft rails. He had tried to re-do it with bits of an Akro... epic fail on the MOT.
So we now have a bit cut out of another chassis. i.e. the x-member tube with a foot or so of the rails both ahead and behind (OK condition). He seems to think it is all right to cut out the old bit without removing the engine. Well, since the engine is hung off the rear part of the chassis, am I alone in thinking the load bed might not be up to keeping everthing in line while I fit the 'new' bit?
He wants to do the prelim work, I just get to fit the new bit. Cost consideration.

Temptation to read the riot act.. or avoid. But I like his atitude. A real trier, and loves the wreck. Even has a name.
