My wife is remotely working, while looking after me. Using a supplied laptop. Problem is she is used to having multiple screens.
We have a spare screen, so asked tech if we could use it. They failed.

we can get a status bar at the bottom, and move the cursor from l/top to 2nd screen via bottom righthand side, the cursor will appear on the 2nd screen but you cannot move open or minimised screens to it.

any suggestions.

Right click on desktop.
Select display properties.
Will bring up the settings menu.

Drag and drop the screens so they mirror the real world. (Hit identify to see which is which.)

Below that should be a drop down. Set chosen screen to main.(will give you the taskbar on it) and make sure it's set to extend not mirror.

If it is a work lap top it could require admin rights to make even minor changes like multiple monitors, I have run into that one on several sites. The company IT should be able to do it remotely for her, physically set it up how she wants to use them and log a call with IT.

Thats what I told her, she’s been on to them, knowing others have the same setup. They reckon its not possible

Windows Key + P for projection blade menu in W10. Assuming you’re using a physically attached screen that’ll do it. If your screen is networked then “Connect to a wireless display” on the projection blade or Windows Key + K for connection blade menu.

Laptop screens are generally pretty awful...best bet is a nice big uhd monitor and use in single monitor mode. Mine has a function key for switching between external monitors.

Is this on the laptop direct or is she on a remote desktop? If remote then one screen is normal sadly. If this is local and your laptop is timing out then there’s obviously an issue. Could be a problem with the software or hardware or could be that the functionally has been deliberately disabled by her IT security.

I have a printer that I'm unable to use as all USB ports have been disabled in the name of security. Wifi connectivity has been disabled on the printer

They are unable to tell me how I'm supposed to print anything ?

Ey, remote desktop.

Not a goer then Shox, RD is headless (no screen on the system) and uses your display. The multiple screen functionality can be made work but normally doesn’t on RD.

If she’s allowed to connect multiple times concurrently then you could dock the sessions on alternate monitors on your system. Not the same desktop but would give more screen real estate which is usually what people want.

I log in remotely from my own laptop....is that not an option....might be forbidden by the IT policies of course.

Email all your confidential files you want printing to a print shop, and have them post it back to you...
