Last weeks project was making a fire surround for the lounge.
I had two pillars from a pulpit (which I will be making a bar from to serve the correct spirit) that I salvaged from a church which I cut down along with 300 x 250 Douglass fir beams. I had the beams slab cut a couple of years ago so took some down to my mates wood machining shop and put a few lengths through the wadkin planer then out with the router and set about making noise and a mess.Once assembled I gave it a few coats of Danish oil which brought a lovely colour out in the wood and gave it a nice sheen. Was chuffed with the end result from a couple of bits of reclamed timber. It aint easy being green!
P.S. the fire surround was made from a couple of newal posts that were surplus to requirements and a half sheet of 3 mm steel sheet and given a coat of hammerite smooth black.
