One for the Electricians, Pulling off the old boarding to reline garage I found that the wiring looks a bit iffy. The six sockets are on a MDF board screwed to a marine ply

liner.After isolating I removed board and the wiring is like the sketch.It seems that the wiring goes from socket to socket and then back to the junction box where it is

connected back to the original wires going in. It this right and safe or do I need to have it all replaced. We moved into the house three years ago and all the wiring was new

then.

Yup, thats a ring main.

What size cable goes into the junction box and what size is used for the ring ?

it may be a ring main but if both wires are back to the joint box and conected together what is feeding the joint box ?? a heavier radial supply ??and where from

True, as long as the source fuse or MCB is correctly rated it will be ok though.

9mm cable and 13 amp fuse in Junction box

did it say 9mm on it?whats the fuse located on?

i presume he has measured the outer of the cable! if thats the long side (assuming twin and earth) then that sounds like 1mm? but its been a while since i measured the outside of twin and earth!

9mm cable and 13 amp fuse in Junction box

they dont make 9mm cable and junction boxes dont have fuses fitted , what u probably have is a fused spur fed of whatever with a 13 amp fuse feeding your ringman . its pointless having the ring as the total load that can be used on it is 13 amp . to use the full potential it should have been wired back to the consumer unit on a 32 amp mcb

Looked at the old reel it was from Screwfix not 9mm but 6mm twin and earth. It goes through garage wall into house direct to consumer unit onto a RCD.Sorry for misinformation.Grey coloured.

that sounds more like on to an mcb , minature circuit breaker an rccd is residual current circuit breaker coveres eath leakage
