Was doing a job earlier with sikaflex and had a thought. Not going to make you a millionaire but I’m very surprised someone doesn’t sell caps to go on the tubes to stop them drying out.

I know there is the trusty nail in the end or whatever, but it’s be so much neater and less waste if there was a littl cap you could put on instead of the spout?

wonder if the Sika will actually glue it on though ,,,, the factory tube is sealed and the thread stays clean .
just thinking out loud ,,, I use gaffa tape over the cut nozzle end , its ok , but not perfect and even then its only a short term thing.

I put clingfilm over the threaded bit then put the nozzle on top of that

Sort of relevant to this conversation, I have never found the specifications for the thread on a silicone tube. Closest I found was this:

From the picture, it looks like an inverted buttress thread form. Maybe it is intentional so that if you squeeze the tube too much, it pops the nozzle off.

Someone must know what it is as these people sell silicone-to-NPT and silicone-to-Leurlock adaptors:

sick of buying the big tubes.....in this heat it goes of in the tube almost overnight...never found way to seal the tube....
if I get lucky within a day or so a new nozzel and a poke around with a screwdriver for the hardend plug might get me a little more outta the tube....
and it's expensive....
I try to wangle it so I have a few jobs lined up for mastic, silicone, whatever...to get the most out of a tube...then just throw it away......if I go to a tube that 1/2 used and solid I get angry.....hahaha.....
slightly dif, I keep my loctite and superglue in the fridge now.....the s/glue seems to last longer

I have a similar approach - try and line things up so I open a tube and get a load done. Doesnt always work mind!

A lot of adhesives require being kept in the fridge or at least controlled climate. I have a 'beer fridge' in the workshop (the sort that comes free with a crate) and I keep my milk in there, but its mainly for adhesives etc. Its not so much the heat being a problem here, its the extreme. If you leave it out and you get a real drop in temperature it kills the adhesives. HYSOL is one I use a lot which is known for it. Also Araldite and Devcon have to be stored between temperatures.

"S" = "Sägegewinde" - translates as "buttress thread"

Insulation tape but it still goes off.Remove nozzle and reverse clear it with an air blower.

That’s what I’ve always ended up doing. Blowing the nozzle out. It works but thought there must be a better way
