Old style Wolf tools

Just been having a look around this site. Seems weird seeing that some of their memorable gear is still in production, practically unchanged. It is in India though. Picked these four at random as they should be instantly recognisable to most.

Strange - it still looks old-fashioned too. Their blurb says they were connected with Wolf from 50 years ago, so perhaps they kept going when Wolf went down the pan.

There's an old aluminium bodied Wolf drill in a stand round at the bike shop and frankly I wouldn't dare use it as a hand tool as it is so powerful. If anything grabs when it is running it throws it across the shop in an instant and could definitely see it spraining a wrist or worse if you didn't let go of the trigger quickly enough.

A couple of those drills remind me of my old Wolf heavy duty that nearly ripped my arm off when the bit stuck, the torque was beyond belief.

I bought it secondhand Sunday, used it Monday, sold it Tuesday.

That's why they caught my eye. It's just like stepping back in time, looking at those. Other than the badge having a slightly different name, they're pretty much exactly how they were back then. Such a rarity to see some place making something for 50 years without farting about with the design in any way or form. Wonder if the quality is on par with what they were back then.

Mate in the army was issued with one of those Ambassadors. While at a receptian party he met a rare petrolhead. " So you have had it welded". mate: " Huh? why? It's new" PH " Well they are sold to a fixed price, so with rising prices, they are trying to save money on the build. One of these ways, is to reduce the spot welding. So, if you don't want it to fall apart, get it seam welded". So he did, cost around a fiver ( obviously nobody on this forum..) and it lasted the rest of his posting with only a clutch replacement. He quite liked it.

We had one of those Wolf biggies. I got the bit stuck once and it twisted my arms in such a way that I couldn't release the trigger. After a somewhat painful couple of seconds, I hooked the cord out with my foot. Made sure I wasn't bitten twice.

Yes I was going to mention that and the Indian Enfield motorcycle which is pretty much same style as the old Enfields, and thay have brought back the GT Continental. Probably similar with some of the trains and maybe some goods vehicles.

Nothing personal Except... wanting one of those suggests a serious lack of knowledge of driving enjoyment.

I taught myself gas welding by de-seaming a Mini. Talk about cruel and unusual punishment. No surprise that the pros charged a lot for it. And, despite it otherwise not being extreme apart from lowering and no bumpers, it got me pulled dozens of times; The fuzz told me it was because they couldn't figure out what was odd about it, so worth a pull.

wanting one of those suggests a serious lack of knowledge of driving enjoyment. I'm a biker so I don't enjoy driving anything-although I thought one of my ex girlfriends 2CV was a hoot.
And anyway, I would have sold the car on as a trendy/funky ride to a sloan ranger/Tim Nicebutdim/vegetarian and made a lil earner.

Made in India is the label that alarms me. In another decade they might have started to look into the idea of quality quantrol, until then no thanks.

The Lister CS 's they knock out are diabolical, casting sand left in them, nothing bored straight, and built by a chimp with a big hammer. The Americans order them as strictly no test run before shipping, and strip them down and re build them before sale.
