Old skills still going
I had a blast today.
Went looking for a friend. He lives on a narrow boat with a butty in tow, he does all sorts of old skills, bodging. Metal spinning and leather work (Horse saddles, perverts)
He has gone AWOL, but I stopped by the canal boat work shop. There they were hot riveting a hull of a boat. They did some by Air hammers, some by a horseshoe press.
But, this was the fun bit. The ones on show above the water line were done by hammering them.
Asked why. Was told it gives a better look to an older boat.
I walked away happy that some old skills are still alive, hiding away, but still going strong.
What reminds me, my friend owes me a few beers.
